BEGINNINGS
Even though Manu Savu feels he has been making music since forever, all this had a beginning. Manu was born on November 29th. Although he manifested artistic inclinations early on, it was only at the age of 14 that he chose music as a form of expression, buying his first guitar. Thus, the "magic" encounter took place. From that moment on, the passion for music never left him.
KEYWORD: ROCK!
Manu is the type of person who, when concentrating on one thing, transforms it into an obsession, living it through all his pores. Playing the guitar was no exception. Detesting mediocrity, Manu embarked on the long journey toward perfection, through countless hours of individual study. The results did not take long to appear. The year 1986 finds Manu as the guitarist of a famous Romanian rock band, playing on the most important stage of the nation, in front of a delirious crowd. Another defining moment is the year 1988, when he buys his first. Fender Stratocaster guitar - this is the beginning of Manu's love for Fender guitars.
He spent the following years touring Romania with the biggest rock bands of the moment, and even with a blues band of which he has fond memories. During those years he discovered and honed his compositional abilities, the result consisting in over 10 albums for which he wrote the music. These albums appeared on the market mostly under the name of the bands of which he was part at the time, but there were also a few that he composed for well-known solo artists from Romania.
OBSESSIONS
Another form of Manu's obsession was and still is the guitar sound. For many years he has been trying intensely to achieve "THAT" guitar sound resonating in his head. Everything began from his great love for the violin sound. For so long he tried to bring the greatness of the violin sound to his guitar sound. This quest kept him away from any attempt to release an instrumental record, as he considered fundamental that his guitar sound exactly like what he had been hearing in his head for so long: the sound that he felt was the only sincere way to express himself.
This instrumental album is not only his first instrumental work, but also the moment when Manu finally identified himself with his guitar sound, and his search calmed down considerably.
The violin player that mostly influenced Manu is Nigel Kennedy, who he had the honour and privilege to meet in person. For Manu, Nigel Kennedy is the perfect example of the "CHOSEN" musician, who magnificently brought together the greatness of interpretation and the violin sound. Nigel is for Manu the most present source of inspiration. "Everytime I feel the slightest inclination to lose my sense of modesty, I listen to "Sarasate" or "The Four Seasons - Presto", in Nigel Kennedy's interpretation. These pieces of music seem like coming from another world, and I fall to the ground touched by a profound state of humbleness... For everyone who wants to do this healthy practice of being humble, I recommend listening to "Sarasate" and not only, by Nigel Kennedy... and see what I am talking about."
MUSICAL INFLUENCES
The list is long and varied, each of these musicians captivating Manu with their music and "guitaristic" craftsmanship: Jimi Hendrix, Peter Green, Eric Clapton, David Gilmore, Ritchie Blackmore, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Eddie Van Halen, Steve Morse, Steve Lukather, Scott Henderson and Eric Johnson . From a tehnical point of view, Hendrix, Morse, Lukather and Van Halen and Alan Holdsworth represent continuous sources of inspiration.
THIS ALBUM
The year 2006 constitutes the moment when Manu decides that he is ready to approach music as a solo guitar player, through his own project.
Manu Savu: "This is the first time that I use my guitar as a supreme voice, and I feel tremendous joy working on an album that, finally, represents me completely. I have always wanted to be able to do that, and now I feel that the universe conspires with me... (smiles). I cannot even say that this album has a certain musical genre, for me it's almost therapeutic... an overflow of emotions and experiences, taking a musical form. It is called DAY OF NIGHT for a reason...".
All these years, Manu strived for spiritual balance, and now he can finally say he found it. His belief is that only this inner balance can give him the strength to reach beyond immediate reality, to see the true beauty and magic of this world, and to transpose at least a fraction of it into his music.
Manu has been in the following bands :
VOLTAJ, KRIPTON, IRIS, VOLTAJ88, Mike & The Blue Spirits, Trupa
